1. 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting

Why in news: India Hosted 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting & 26th Committee on Environmental Protection in Kochi,Kerala.

Key points:

• Theme: "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" or 'one Earth, one family, one future'

• It focused on a wide range of challenges and contributed to implementing the Environmental Protocol in Antarctica.

• ATCM-46 and CEP-26 were hosted by the Ministry of Earth Sciences(MoES), Government of India, through the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa,
with support from the Antarctic Treaty Secretariat.

• During the event, a customised "MyStamp" featuring the logo of ATCM-46 was released in collaboration with India Post.

2. Assam’s New IIM

Why in news: Recently, Assam secures approval for new IIM in Kamrup district of Assam.

Key points:

• Aim: To boosting education and economy in the region, the proposal emphasizes collaborative efforts.

• The central government has approved Assam’s proposal to establish a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Kamrup district,Assam with IIM Ahmedabad slated to mentor the new institution.

Why in news: Krishna Kanhai unveils ‘The Golden Krishna’ Exhibition in Dubai.

Key points:

• Renowned Indian artist Krishn Kanhai unveiled his latest collection, “The Golden Krishna,” in a grand opening ceremony.

• The centerpiece of the exhibition is a breathtaking life-sized, three-dimensional painting of Tirupati Balaji, meticulously crafted with 24-karat gold and measuring
an impressive 5 feet by 8 feet.

2. Multinational War Games

Why in news: Indian Forces Join US-Hosted Multinational War Games.

Key points:

• The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Navy are both taking part in military drills with other countries that are being held by the US.

• In Alaska, the Indian Air Force is taking part in the aerial combat training exercise Red Flag & In Hawaii, the Indian Navy will be taking part in the naval drill
RIMPAC.

3. 21st Shangri-La Dialogue

Why in news: The 21st Shangri-La Dialogue, a major Asia-Pacific defence summit, concluded in Singapore on 2 June 2024.

Key points:

• The Dialogue saw participation from over a hundred delegates worldwide, discussing pressing security challenges and exploring fresh approaches.

• The Shangri-La Dialogue is organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in collaboration with the Singapore government.

ECONOMY:

1. India receives Highest FDI from Singapore in 2023-24

Why in news: India received the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) from Singapore in 2023-24 while Mauritius is on number 2.

Key points:

• The overseas capital inflows into the country contracted by about 3.5 per cent due to global economic uncertainties.

• Though FDI from Singapore has dipped by 31.55 per cent to USD 11.77 billion in 2023-24,

• Since 2018-19, Singapore has been the largest source of such investments for India

2. India’s GDP grows 8.2% in FY24

Why in news: This is the ninth time since 1960-61 the Indian GDP has grown by 8 per cent or more in a financial year.

Key points:

• According to the provisional estimate of the National Statistical Organization (NSO), the Indian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 8.2 per cent in the financial
year 2023-24. The Indian GDP growth rate in 2022-23 was 7 percent.

• According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, real GDP or GDP at constant prices is estimated to attain a level of over 173 lakh crore rupees in the year 2023-24.

• The Reserve Bank of India had estimated a growth rate of 7.6 per cent for the Indian economy in 2023-24.


3. GST collection rises by 10%

Why in news: The gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue for the month of May 2024 stood at ₹1.73 lakh crore.

Key points:

• After accounting for refunds, the net GST revenue for May 2024 stands at ₹1.44 lakh crore, reflecting a growth of 6.9% compared to the same period last year.

Why in news: SEBI Launches Saathi 2.0 Personal Finance App for Investors.

Key points:

• SEBI has launched “Saathi 2.0,” a mobile app designed to provide comprehensive tools for simplifying complex financial concepts and empowering investors with
reliable information.

• The app features modules on various financial aspects like KYC procedures, mutual funds, ETFs, buying and selling shares, investor grievances redressal, and an
Online Dispute Resolution platform.

• It also offers educational videos to assist investors in their personal finance planning.

5. UPI Breaks Record with 14.04 Billion Transactions in May 2024

Why in news: Unified Payments Interface (UPI) set a new record with 14.04 billion transactions in May, up from 13.30 billion in April, marking a 49% year-on-year
growth.

Key points:

• The total transaction value reached Rs 20.45 lakh crore, with an average daily transaction count of 453 million and an average daily transaction value of Rs 65,966 crore.

• UPI payments are acceptable in countries like Sri Lanka,UAE, France,Singapore,Mauritius,Nepal and Bhutan.
RBI cancels 10-year green bond auction.

• For the first time Reserve Bank of India cancelled the auction of 10-year green bonds as traders refused to pay greenium.

• Greenium signifies the premium investors are willing to pay for green bonds because of their sustainability impact.

• Funds generated via the sale of green bonds will be allocated to public-sector projects aimed at decreasing the carbon footprint of the economy.

1. Artificial Intelligence Learning in School Textbooks

Why in news: Kerala has introduced Artificial Intelligence learning in the Information & Communication Technology textbook for Class 7 students.

Key points:

• This initiative aims to familiarize over 4 lakh students with AI in the upcoming academic year, marking a significant step towards enhancing technological education in the state.

2. PakSAT-MM1

Why in news: China successfully launched Pakistan's multi-mission communication satellite, named PakSAT-MM1.

Key points:

• This satellite was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China's southwestern province of Sichuan using a Long March-3B carrier rocket.

• PakSAT-MM1is a part of Pakistan's National Space Programme 2047 which aims to enhance internet services across Pakistan.

1. New Blue Ant Species Discovered in Himalayas

Why in news: In the Siang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, scientists have recently found a new type of ant in the Eastern Himalayas.

Key points:

• A group of entomologists from the University of Florida in the USA and the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) in Bengaluru, India, made this finding.

• The new species, Paraparatrechina neela, is an important addition to the genus Paraparatrechina.

• It is the first species of its kind to be found in the Indian subcontinent in more than one hundred years

1. DP Manu wins Gold in Javelin Throw

Why in news: India’s DP Manu wins gold in javelin throw at Taiwan Athletics Open 2024

Key points:

• DP Manu achieving a distance of 81.58 meters in the competition during his sixth and final attempt.

• Chao Tsun Cheng of Chinese Taipei earned the silver medal with a throw of 76.21 meters.

• Chao-Hong Huang, also from Chinese Taipei, clinched the bronze medal with a throw of 71.24 meters.

2. Bonn International Badminton Tournament

Why in news: India’s Tanvi Sharma bagged the women’s singles title at the Bonn International Badminton Tournament in Germany.

Key points:

• The Indian shuttler defeated Wang Pei Yu of Taiwan in straight sets, 21-19, 22-20. This is the first senior title for the 15-year-old Tanvi.

3. Dinesh Karthik

Why in news: India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

• He made his national debut at the age of 19 in a One-Day International against England at Lords.

• In this state ranking, Lakhisarai and Khagaria are at first and second position for the third consecutive month.
