1. Rashtriya E-Pustakalaya

Why in news: The Department of School Education, Ministry of Education, has signed an MoU with the National Book Trust to establish an institutional framework for Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya.

Key points:

• This collaboration aims to enhance the accessibility of non-academic books for children and adolescents across India.

• Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya is a pioneering digital library platform, aims to resolve the ‘last mile’ accessibility issue for many states by offering over 10,000 books
in more than 100 languages within the next 2-3 years.

• Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya will feature over 1,000 non-academic titles from more than 40 publishers in 22 languages, besides English.

• The platform will cater to four age groups (3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years) as per NEP 2020 guidelines, and will be accessible on Android and iOS devices.

• He library will offer books across multiple genres, fostering cultural awareness and empathy

2. Clean Air Project

Why in news: Haryana Launches $10B Clean Air Project funded by World Bank.

Key points:

• The Haryana state government started “Haryana Clean Air Project for Sustainable Development.”

• The goal of this Project is to successfully deal with air pollution.

• This ten-year project is fully funded by the World Bank and is managed by a governing committee led by the Chief Secretary.

1. Slovenia Recognizes Palestinian State

Why in news: After a vote in parliament with 52 votes in favor, Slovenia legally recognized Palestine as a sovereign state.

Key points:

• Recently, Spain, Norway, and Ireland have recently recognized Palestine state.

2. Maldives Bans Entry to Israeli Passport Holders

Why in news: Maldives has banned visitors with Israeli passports because of rising tensions and popular displeasure over recent events in Gaza.

Key points:

• President of Maldives also announced a national fundraising campaign called “Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine”.

• After the ban the Embassy of Israel recommended its citizens to explore beaches in India

1. Netherlands Emerges as India’s 3rd Largest Export Destination in 2023-24

Why in news: The Netherlands became India’s third-largest export market in the fiscal year 2023–24, after the US and the UAE.

Key points:

• India's trade surplus with the Netherlands rose to $17.4 billion in FY24 from $13 billion in FY23.

• The main commodities which registered healthy exports growth in the Netherlands include petroleum products ($14.29 billion), electrical goods, chemicals, and
pharmaceuticals.

• According to the Commerce Ministry data, India’s merchandise shipments dipped by more than 3%

1. Largest Digital Camera for Astronomy

Why in news: The largest digital camera is set to be installed under the clear skies on the edge of Atacama desert in northern Chile.

Key points:

• Aim: To explore dark energy, dark matter, and potential Earth-asteroid collisions.

• The Observatory will generate vast amounts of data to further our understanding of the universe.

• The resolution of the camera is above 3.2 gigapixels, a nearly three-ton weight.

• The award, set to be presented at a ceremonial event, includes a monetary prize of ₹25,000 and a memento.

Why in news: Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al- Sabah Sworn in As Crown Prince of Kuwait.

Key points:

• Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al- Sabah was officially sworn in as the Crown Prince of Kuwait before the Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah(head of state of Kuwait).

• It was the first time a Kuwaiti crown prince is named whose father had not ruled as emir.

Why in news: Helen Mary becomes first woman brigadier in Pakistan Army from minority community.

Key points:

• Brigadier Dr. Helen is senior pathologist and has been serving in the Pakistan Army for the last 26 years.

• According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in 2021, there are 96.47 per cent Muslims in the country, followed by 2.14 per cent Hindus, 1.27 percent Christians, 0.09 per cent Ahmadi Muslims and 0.02 per cent others.

1. World Environment Day

Why in news: World Environment Day is annually observed across the globe on 5 June.

Key points:

• Theme: , "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience"

• Objective: To emphasise the critical importance of environmental protection and health.

BIHAR:

1. Nagi And Nakti Bird Sanctuaries

Why in news: Nagi And Nakti Bird Sanctuaries of Jamui,Bihar Designated as Ramsar.

Key points:

• Both Nagi & Nakti bird sanctuary are man-made reservoirs situated in the Jhajha forest range of Jamui district in Bihar.

• It takes the total number of globally recognised wetlands in the India to 82.

• New additions of two wetlands made India joint third with China in terms of having the number of ‘Ramsar Sites’, after UK (175) & Mexico (144).

Value Addition:

• Nagi and Nakti Bird Sanctuary, covering a total area of 544.378 ha,

• Nakti Bird Sanctuary: It was developed primarily for irrigation through the construction of Nakti Dam, Since the dam’s construction, the wetland and its surrounding area have provided habitat for over 150 species of birds, mammals, fish, aquatic plants, and reptiles and amphibians.

• They include globally threatened species, including the endangered Indian elephant (Elephas maximus indicus) and a vulnerable native catfish (Wallago attu).

• 1984, the wetland was designated as a Bird Sanctuary.

• Nagi Bird Sanctuary : It was created following the damming of the Nagi River, which enabled the gradual formation of water bodies with clear water and aquatic
vegetation.

• Due to its importance for migratory bird species, the Site was recognized locally as a Bird Sanctuary in 1984, and internationally as an Important Bird and
Biodiversity Area (IBA) by BirdLife International.

• Threatened migratory species that winter at the Site include the critically endangered Baer’s pochard (Aythya baeri) and the endangered steppe eagle (Aquila
nipalensis).
