NATIONAL:

1. Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam

Why in news: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign to commemorate the World Environment Day.

Key points:

• PM Modi planted a peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi.

• This campaign aims to be a one-of-its-kind mass movement to plant crores of trees across the country.

• World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, with the theme for this year’s celebration is “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience.”

2. GST Bhawan

Why in news: CBIC Chairperson inaugurates GST Bhawan at Rohtak .

Key points:

• The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal inaugurated the GST Bhawan, an official complex of CGST Rohtak Commissionerate at Rohtak, Haryana.

• The newly inaugurated GST Bhawan is easily accessible to help GST taxpayers and is at the centre of connectivity to the main districts of Haryana.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. King Charles III

Why in news: The Bank of England is replacing old banknotes featuring Queen Elizabeth with new ones featuring King Charles III.

Key points:

• People can exchange their old notes for new ones until June 30, with a limit of £300.

• The portrait of the 75-year-old British monarch will appear on existing designs of all four banknotes-GBP 5, 10, 20 and 50- with no other changes to the existing designs.

• Polymer banknotes that feature the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, will remain legal tender and co-circulate alongside the new King Charles III notes.

2. UNSC Non-Permanent Members

Why in news: Pakistan, Somalia, Denmark, Greece and Panama were elected as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for a two-year term beginning 2025.

Key points:

• The five members were elected by a secret ballot in the UN General Assembly for a 2-year term starting on January 1, 2025, until December 31, 2026.

• In the two seats for African and Asia-Pacific States, Somalia got 179 votes and Pakistan 182. In the Latin American and Caribbean States, Panama got 183 votes while in the Western European and other States, Denmark got 184 votes and Greece 182.

3. World’s Longest Suspension Bridge

Why in news: World’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge named the Bridge of National Unity has been built in Satoraljaujhely, Hungary.

Key points:

• It will soon be open for the public.

• The suspension bridge in Satoraljaujhely constructed between Szar Hill and Var Hill, will offer tourists a magnificent panorama and an entirely new perspective on the city and the mountains.

4. Biopharmaceutical Alliance

Why in news: India, US, Japan, South Korea & EU Launch Biopharmaceutical Alliance.

Key points:

• India, South Korea, Japan, the US, and the European Union launched an alliance to put joint efforts to build a resilient supply chain in the biopharmaceutical sector.

• The announcement was made at the inaugural meeting of the Biopharmaceutical Alliance, held in San Diego, California, during the Bio International Convention 2024, the world’s largest biopharmaceutical exhibition.

• The participants emphasised the importance of a reliable and sustainable supply chain and agreed to coordinate the respective countries’ bio policies, regulations, and research and development support measures.

4. First Human Dies From H5N2 Bird Flu

Why in news: The first known death from the H5N2 strain of bird flu was recorded by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Mexico.

• This case is the first proven case of the H5N2 virus in a person around the world.

1. NPCI International signs Partnership with Reserve Bank of Peru

Why in news: NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) and the Reserve Bank of Peru have announced a partnership to enable UPI like real time payments system in Peru.

Key points:

• This collaboration marks a significant milestone, making Peru the first country in South America to adopt the globally renowned Unified Payment Interface (UPI) technology.

• UPI’s collaborative and open banking ethos enables greater connectivity and interoperability with both domestic and international payment networks, fostering innovation and resilience in the Peruvian payment ecosystem

1. Oleg Kononenko

Why in news: Oleg Kononenko Becomes 1st Person to Spend 1,000 Days in Space.

Key points:

• Oleg Kononenko is a 59-year old Russian cosmonaut, recently achieved a historic landmark by becoming the first person to spend 1,000 days in space.

• This milestone was reached during Kononenko’s fifth mission to the International Space Station (ISS) which commenced on September 2023.

SPORTS:

1. Asian Paralympic Committee

Why in news: The Asian Paralympic Committee announced the inclusion of armwrestling in the upcoming Asian Youth Para Game.

Key points:

• The Games will take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in September-October 2025.

• The Youth Para Asian Games are an opportunity to introduce, grow and promote a new sport in the region

• Objective: To raise awareness about the critical role of pest management in addressing pest-related challenges and protecting public health, food safety, and ensuring a safe, pest-free environment.

BIHAR:

1. Parimarjan Plus Portal

Why in news: The Revenue and Land Reforms Department of Bihar launches Parimarjan Plus portal to rectification in land documents

Key points:

• Parimarjan plus portal has been established to help speed up this work by facilitating Raiyats to file an online request for necessary correction of Jamabandi record with the department.

• In this, the ryot will get a chance to make corrections in his name, father's name, address along with caste, account recorded in digitized Jamabandi, Khesra, Rakwa and Chauhaddi or error in entry related tax returns.

• This portal gives facility to view Jamabandi records from all 534 anchals of Bihar has become available to citizens at the departmental portal.

• Raiyats can now see Jamabandi details from the comfort of their home.
