1. PM Narendra Modi

Why in news: PM Narendra Modi Takes Oath for the 3rd term as PM.

Key points:

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the oath of office for the third straight term as the head of a coalition government.

• The Council of Ministers will also take their oaths of office and secrecy, forming part of the Prime Minister's new cabinet

• Foreign Leaders Attending PM Modi's Swearing-In Ceremony: President of Sri Lanka-H.E. Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of Maldives- Mohamed Muizzu, Vice-President of Seychelles-Mr Ahmed Afif ,Prime Minister of Bangladesh- Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Mauritius-Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister of Nepal- Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda' and Prime Minister of Bhutan-Tshering Tobgay.

• Modi’s Remarkable Achievement At the age of 73, Modi equalled the feat of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who won three consecutive general elections in 1952, 1957, and 1962.

Value Addition:

• 65.79% voter turnout was recorded in General Elections 2024 at the polling stations.

• Lakshadweep recorded the highest voter turnout of 84.16 percent followed by Assam with 81.56 percent and Tripura with 80.93 percent whereas Bihar recorded the lowest voter turnout at 56.19 percent followed by Uttar Pradesh at 56.92 percent.

2. Indian Navy's 1st Woman Helicopter Pilot

Why in news: Sub-Lt Anamika Rajeev Becomes Indian Navy's 1st Woman Helicopter Pilot.

Key points:

• Sub-Lieutenant Anamika B Rajeev has become the Indian Navy's first woman helicopter pilot after she received the prestigious "Golden Wings" at the passing-out parade at a naval air station in Tamil Nadu's Arakkonam.

• Lt Jamyang Tsewang, the first commissioned naval officer from Ladakh, also successfully graduated as a qualified helicopter pilot.

3. India's First Green Destination

Why in news: Mamallapuram set to become India's first Green Destination.

Key points:

• The final award of Mamallapuram will be formally announced and presented after an audit this will make it the first World Heritage Site in the Asia Pacific region to achieve this benchmark.

• Green Destinations based in The Netherlands is a Global Sustainable Tourism Council accredited certification body which supports sustainable destinations, their businesses and their communities.

• So far, 122 destinations in the world have been awarded the certification by Global Destinations.

4. International Film Festival

Why in news: The 18th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) will be held in Mumbai from June 15 to 21.

Key points:

• The film gala, which showcases non-feature films (documentary, short Fiction and animation) will be at the FD-NFDC Complex in Mumbai. Besides, MIFF screenings will also be held in Delhi at Sirifort Auditorium, Chennai at Tagore Film Centre, Pune at NFAI auditorium and Kolkata at SRFTI Auditorium.

• The 2024 edition will open with the screening of National Geographic’s documentary “Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story”.

• The organisers received a record number of 1018 films from 38 countries and across 65 languages for the latest editio

5. UDAAN

Why in news: IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for UAVs and DFI, has unveiled a pioneering drone startup acceleration initiative , UDAAN.

Key points:

• UDAAN aims to empower emerging drone ventures by offering them access to state-of-the-art facilities, expert mentorship, financial support, and tailored business development guidance, fostering rapid business growth.

• This includes strategic product and business development assistance, market analysis, customer targeting, alliance building, and growth plan development.

1. UNITED NATION

Why in news: UN added Israel to ‘blacklist’ of countries harming children in conflict.

Key points:

• This Move comes as Israel’s Gaza war has killed more than 15,500 Palestinian children and fuelled widespread malnutrition.

2. Golden Visa Scheme

Why in news: Portugal to use golden visa scheme to help migrants to build affordable homes.

Key points:

• Portugal plans to adapt its golden visa scheme to allow wealthy foreigners seeking residency rights to invest in affordable housing for locals or accommodation for migrants.

• It would complement an existing programme, which since 2012 has offered non-EU nationals who invest in Portugal the right to live in the country.

• The golden visa scheme has attracted more 7.3 billion euros ($7.94 billion) of funds since its launch.

3. Clean Economy Investor Forum Meeting

Why in news: First IPEF Clean Economy Investor Forum meeting held in Singapore.

Key points:

• The meeting was held along with the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Ministerial meeting.

• Aim: To bring together the Asia Pacific region’s top investors, clean economy companies, and start-ups to mobilise investments into renewable energy projects, sustainable infrastructure and climate technology.

About Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF):

• The IPEF is an American-led initiative that was launched after the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the world’s supply chain.

4. Source Code: My Beginnings

Why in news: Bill Gates Unveils “Source Code : My Beginnings”,A Memoir Revealing His Remarkable Journey.

Key points:

• Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has revealed plans to release his highly anticipated memoir, titled “Source Code: My Beginnings.” Set to hit the shelves on February 4, 2025.

• Microsoft is the most valuable company in the world followed by NVIDIA and Apple.

ECONOMY:

1. India’s Foreign Reserve

Why in news: With $651.5 billion in foreign exchange reserves, India had the highest amount of foreign exchange reserves ever.

Key points:

• Positive changes in trade, remittances, and foreign investments have helped India’s external industry reach a strong point.

• India's forex reserves jumped USD 4.837 billion to a new all-time high of USD 651.51 billion for the week ended May 31.

• Gold reserves falls by $212 million to $56.501 billion during the week ended May 31, special drawing rights decrease by $17 million to $18.118 billion

• Service exports grows by 4.2% in the fourth quarter of 2023–24, net service exports went up by 9.3% over the same quarter.

• R Praggnanandhaa finished third, 3 points behind Carlsen & R Vaishali finished 4th in women's section.

2. First Indian to Win in UFC

Why in news: Puja Tomar from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh becomes first Indian to win in UFC

Key points:

• Puja Tomar made history as the first Indian to win a fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), defeating Brazil's Rayanne dos Santos at UFC Louisville 2024.

• In her debut fight in the women's strawweight division, she triumphed by split decision with scores of 30-27, 27-30, and 29-28.

AWARDS & HONOUR:

1. Vellayan Subbiah

Why in news: Vellayan Subbiah was named the EY World Entrepreneur of The Year 2024 at an award ceremony held in Monaco’s Salle des Etoiles.

Key points:

• He is an Executive Vice-Chairman of Tube Investments of India (TII) and Chairman of Cholamandalam (Chola) Investment and Finance Co. Ltd. Vellayan.

• He was selected from among nearly 5,000 programme participants that included 51 winners across 47 countries and jurisdictions competing for the global title.

2. Best Business Regulator Award

Why in news: Sebi Wins ‘Best Business Regulator’ Award in Asia Pacific.

Key points:

• This award was given in an event in Hong Kong, shows how important SEBI has been in improving the rules that govern Indian stock markets.

• Kamlesh Chandra Varshney who is aPermanent Member of SEBI, accepted the award on behalf of the organization.

BIHAR:

1. Eight Ministers in new Modi government were from Bihar

Why in news: There are four cabinet and four ministers of state among them.

Key points:

• Four ministers have been inducted from the BJP quota, two from NDA's major constituents JDU and one each from HAM and LJP-R.

• Except Giriraj Singh and Nityanand Rai, all the other six are new faces.

• It include Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh of JDU,Giriraj Singh of BJP. Jitan Ram Manjhi of HAM and LJP-R supremo Chirag Paswan have got a place in the cabinet.

• Nityanand Rai of BJP,Ramnath Thakur of JDU, RajBhushan Choudhary of BJP and Satish Kumar Dubey of BJP have got place as State Ministers.
