NATIONAL:

1. Nata Pratha

Why in news: NHRC issues notice to 4 states over ‘Natha Pratha’ practice.

Key points:

• The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to four states Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat

• Natha Pratha involves selling “on a stamp paper” or marrying off underage girls from some communities. These “sales and marriages” are usually conducted by their own families.

• The commission has requested the Union ministry of women and child development and the concerned states to present an action taken report.

2. 500 year Old Statue

Why in news: Britain will return 500 year old statue to India.

Key points:

• The 60 cm tall bronze statue of the Tamil poet and saint of South India dates back to the 16th century.

• It is present in the Ashmolean Museum of Oxford University. This bronze statue was looted from an Indian temple by the British in 1897

INTERNATIONAL:

1. Artemis Accords

Why in news: Peru and Slovakia sign the Artemis Accords for Peaceful Moon Exploration.

Key points:

• Peru and Slovakia signed NASA’s Artemis Accords at NASA’s Washington headquater to join the U.S.-led agreement on the safe exploration of space.

• Peru became 41st and Slovakia 42nd countries to do so.

• India was the 27th nation to sign the Artemis Accords om June 21st 2023

About Artemis Accord:

• Artemis accord is launched by NASA and seven other nations in 2020.

• The Artemis Accords are a nonbinding political commitment to a set of principles guiding the conduct of civil space exploration.

• The namesake of the accords is the Artemis Program, which NASA is leading along with industry and international partners to create a sustainable human presence on the Moon and eventually on Mars.

ECONOMY:

1. Mines Extractions

Why in news: According to theUNEP's Global Material Flows Database, a total of 104.1 billion tonnes of biomass, fossil fuels, metalores, and non-metallic minerals were extracted in 2023, Worldwidely.

Key points:

• Asia and the Pacific accounted for the largest share (55%) with 56.9billion tonnes.

• China was the world's biggest extractor, India (8.03bt)was next, overtaking the US (7.98bt) for the first time to become the second largest extractor of these materials in 2023.

• In domestic extraction per capita Australia is at number 1 with 102 tonnes followed by Canada (67 tonnes) and China (24tonnes).

• Domestic extraction per capita in India is 6 tonnes.

2. India Exim Bank

Why in news: India Exim Bank Opens Nairobi Office to Boost East Africa Trade.

Key points:

• The Export-Import Bank of India inaugurated its East Africa Representative Office in Nairobi, Kenya, aiming to expand India’s business footprint in the resource-rich and demographically young continent of East Africa.

• This initiative seeks to enhance trade and investment ties between India, Kenya, and the broader East African region.
Trade Between India and East Africa

• Over the past decade, trade between India and East Africa has surged significantly, with merchandise trade reaching US$12.9 billion in 2022, up from US$9.7 billion in 2013.

• India’s exports to East Africa rose from US$8.6 billion in 2013 to US$9.4 billion in 2022.

1. ISSF Rifle Pistol World Cup

Why in news: Sift Kaur Samra won a bronze medal in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Munich.

Key points:

• Sift shot 452.9, to give up silver by an agonizing 0.1 to China’s Han Jiayu, the reigning Air Rifle Women’s World Champion.

• World No. 1 Seonaid Mcintosh of Great Britain won gold with a score of 466.7

• Sarabjot Singh also won gold in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol.

2. Archery Asia Cup 2024

Why in news: Kumud Saini won the sole gold medal for India at the Archery Asia Cup 2024 Stage 3 held in Suwon, South Korea.

Key points:

• The Indian archery team finished its campaign in the Asia Cup with five medals – one gold, two silvers and two bronze.

• In the final, Kumud defeated South Korean girl Park Yerin 143-140 to win the gold medal.

Why in news: Raj Priy Singh Appointed Director in Department of Rural Development.

Key points:

• Raj Priy Singh, a 2010-batch IFoS officer, has been appointed as the Director in the Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Rural Development.

• Raj Priy Singh’s appointment as Director in the Department of Rural Development is under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years, effective from the date he assumes charge of the post or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

1. William Anders

Why in news: William Anders, Apollo 8 astronaut who took ‘Earthrise’ photo from space died in plane crash.

• Retired astronaut William Anders, one of the first three humans to orbit the moon, who captured the “Earthrise” photo during NASA’s Apollo 8 mission.

2. Ramoji Rao

Why in news: Ramoji Rao, head of the ETV Network and founder of Ramoji Film City passed away in Hyderabad.

Key points:

• Ramoji Rao headed the Eenadu group of companies, ETV Network, Margadarshi chit fund, and Ramoji Film City (RFC).

• In 2016, his remarkable achievements were further recognized with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, for his multifaceted contributions to journalism, literature, and education.

1. Jan Suraj Party

Why in news: Jan Suraj Abhiyan will convert into a political party on October 2, will be named as Jan Suraj Party.

Key points:

• Prashant Kishor,s Party aims that in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Jan Suraj will form the government on his own by defeating all the political parties including BJP, JDU and RJD.

Why in news: Justice Arvind Singh Chandel takes oath as Patna High Court judge.

• Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to Justice Chandel in a ceremony held at Raj Bhawan.
