1. India’s Largest Ethane Cracker Project

Why in news: GAIL to Set Up India’s Largest Ethane Cracker Project with Rs 60,000 Crore Investment in Madhya Pradesh.

Key points:

• GAIL (India) plans to invest Rs 60,000 crore to set up a 1500 KTA Ethane Cracker Project in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh.

• The project will cover 800 hectares, with land provided by the MP Industrial.

• The project aims to produce a range of ethylene derivatives, bolstering the petrochemical infrastructure in the region.

• The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation Limited is facilitating land acquisition for the project, with the state government.

2. Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran Temple

Why in news: Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran Temple is being built in the religious city Vrindavan,Uttar Pradesh.

Key points:

• In this temple devotees will get the opportunity to study the entire 18 thousand verses of Shrimad Bhagwat at one place.

• In this two-storey temple, Shukdevji and King Parikshit narrating the story will also be seen. The foundation stone of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran Temple has been laid in Mithila Kunj on Parikrama Marg.

• Artisan Satish from Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) will inscribe the verses of Shrimad Bhagwat on the stone plaques in the temple

1. JIMEX-24

Why in news: The 8th edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX-24) has begun in Yokosuka, Japan.

Key points:

• It is hosted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF).

• Indian Navy’s INS Shivalik and Japan’s JS Yugiri are participating.

• Exercise Overview JIMEX-24 comprises both harbour and sea phases

2. BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting

Why in news: The two-day conference of BRICS foreign ministers has started in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

Key points:

• This is the first meeting of BRICS after the expansion of the grouping in January.

• Including Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia

• Theme - “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.”

• In a joint statement, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering strategic cooperation across three key areas: politics and security, economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian ties.

3. Peace Conference On Ukraine

Why in news: 90 countries approve to participate in peace conference on Ukraine to be held on 15-16 June in Switzerland.

Key points:

• Switzerland will bring heads of state, government, and organizations together with the goal of developing a common understanding of a path toward peace in Ukraine.

• The peace conference will take place after the G7 summit to be held in Italy from 13th june.

• India has also not yet announced its participation in the conference.

4. New York Bans Social Media Algorithms for Children

Why in news: The state legislature passed a bill Under which social media platforms will not be able to serve addictive content to minors using algorithms.

Key points:

• Through this algorithm, users got more content based on their favorite posts and videos, so that they could stay on the app for a longer time, But now this will not happen as per the wish of the companies.

• With the signature of Governor Kathy Hochul on the bill and its legal approval, it can fundamentally change the way social media is used.

1. Aditya-L1 Spacecraft

Why in news: ISRO releases images of sun captured by Aditya-Ll during May.

Key points:

• Two of the remote sensing payloads aboard India's maiden solar mission, Aditya-L1, have captured images of the sun and its dynamic activities during the solar storm, which occurred in May.

• During these eruptive events, two remote sensing instru- ments Solar Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) and Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC), apart from capturing images, these payloads have made important observations

• According to the ISRO, these images will help in studying solar flares, energy distribution, sun spot, understanding and predicting space weather, monitoring solar activity and UV radiation over a wide wavelength range, and also aid in the study of long term solar variations.

1. MotoGP Bharat

Why in news: UP to organize 2025 edition of MotoGP Bharat in Noida.

Key points:

• MotoGP India will be held in Buddha Circuit, Greater Noida Gautam Buddha Nagar from 2025 to 2029.

• The Uttar Pradesh government will sign a contract with Dorna Sports and its Indian partner, Fairstreet Sports, to organize the MotoGP event in Noida.

2. 6th ATP Challenger Tennis

Why in news: Indian’s Sumit Nagpal won the men’s singles title at the Heilbronn Neckarcup 2024 ATP Challenger Tennis tournament in Germany.

Key points:

• It was the sixth ATP Challenger title for India’s top-ranked men’s tennis singles player.

• In the final, Sumit Nagpal defeated Alexander Ritschard of Switzerland in three sets.

• This win will improve the ATP ranking of Sumit Nagpal making him eligible for the 2024 Summer Paris Olympics.

3. World Para Athlete Grand Prix

Why in news: Saurabh Sharma from Himachal Pradesh has won two gold medals in the ongoing World Para Athlete Grand Prix in the Nottwil city of Switzerland.

• Saurav Sharma emerged victorious in 155-metre and 5000-metre races.

• He is representing the Indian team in the T12 category.

4. Canadian Grand Prix 2024

Why in news: Max Verstappen of Red Bull has won the Canadian Grand Prix 2024.

1. Koleken Inakayali

Why in news: A new type of dinosaur called Koleken inakayali was found in Patagonia, Southern America. Key points:

Key points:

• This find helps us learn more about the group of dinosaurs called abelisaurids and makes us think of interesting connections with the famous Tyrannosaurus rex.

• The newly found K. inakayali has arms that are even smaller than its body, making it look a lot like the T. rex.

• It’s likely that Koleken inakayali and Carnotaurus, another abelisaurid known for having very small arms, both had similar physical problems that made their arms almost useless for hunting.

Why in news: Chandrababu Naidu Sworn In as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister for 4th Term.

• The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in alliance with Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Pawan Kalyan's JanaSena Party contested Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls and Lok Sabha elections.

PLACES IN NEWS:

1. New Caledonia

Why in news: Widespread protests and riots erupted in New Caledonia in response to the French parliament's decision to amend the voters list.

Key points:

• The new amendment bill will pave the way for incorporating citizens who were either born or lived in the territory for at least 10 years.

• Kanaks, the indigenous community of the territory, opposed this on claims that it diluted their electoral power thus marginalising them.

History of New Caledonia:

• New Caledonia had Kanaks as the original inhabitants.

• France gained control of the territory in 1853 and governed the Kanaks with reservations. After the Second World War, colonial laws were abolished and the Kanaks were granted French citizenship.

• Matignon agreements in 1988 and the Noumea Accord in 1998 signed between the Kanaks and the French government. This allowed the transfer of powers from Paris to local authorities to decide the territory's independence.

• New Caledonia lies in the southwestern Pacific Ocean east of Australia

Why in news: Every year on 12th June World Day Against Child Labour is celebrated.

Key points:

• The Theme for 2024: End Child Labour Now!

• This significant event is organised by the International Labour Organisation which raises awareness around the world against child labour and highlights the importance of eliminating it.
