NATIONAL:

1. Deep Sea Mission

Why in news: India will become the sixth country to conduct deep sea mission.

Key points:

• The mission of the deep sea is not limited to mineral exploration, but also development of marine science, exploration of flora and fauna and conservation of marine
biodiversity.

• In the meeting on the 100-day action plan of the ministry the efforts of National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) also appreciated for the development of
Matsyaan 6000.

• It can dive to a depth of 6,000 meters in the ocean.

• The ministry is also appriciated for working closely with ISRO to develop a 'titanium hull' for the ship.

2. Next Generation Technology Of Biofuel

Why in news: National Sugar Institute (NSI) and IIT Kanpur have joined hands to develop next generation technology of biofuel.

Key points:

• IIT Director Prof. Manindra Aggarwal and Ashwani Srivastava, Joint Secretary (Sugars) to the Government of India on behalf of NSI signed the agreement.

• In the program organized at NSI, after the MOU, the Center of Excellence was also inaugurated.

• This year 15 thousand crore liters of ethanol has been produced & The target is to increase it to 17 thousand crore liters next year.

• Meanwhile, the government has decided to encourage ethanol production from sweet sorghum and maize instead of ethanol production from sugarcane, so that there is no shortage of sugar in the market.

3. Ranjit Lake of Jammu and Kashmir

Why in news: Cruises will now run in Ranjit Lake of Jammu and Kashmir.

Key points:

• Ranjit of Basohli Cruise boats will start running in Sagar Lake on the lines of Banaras.

• There will be provision of three to five star hotels for tourists in the beautiful valleys of Chala village and Bani located on the border of Jammu and Kashmir
adjacent to Himachal Pradesh.

• With this, tourism will expand in Basohli, the international art city famous for Pashmina shawls and paintings.

• Basohli is one of the 57 identified locations in the country under the Bharat Darshan 2.0 scheme, which has been notified by the Ministry of Tourism under the
Swadesh Darshan scheme for the development of theme based tourism circuits.

4. Heavy Metal Contaminants

Why in news: IISc, Bangaluru develops method to remove heavy metal contaminants from groundwater.

Key points:

• Indian Institute of Science (IISc) researchers have developed a novel remediation process for removing heavy metal contaminants such as arsenic from groundwater.

• According to IISc, the three-step method, which is patent-pending, also ensures that the removed heavy metals are disposed of in an environment friendly and
sustainable manner, instead of sending untreated heavy metal-rich sludge to landfills from where they can potentially reenter groundwater.

• According to reports, 113 districts in 21 States in India have arsenic levels above 0.01 mg per litre while 223 districts in 23 States have fluoride levels above 1.5
mg per litre, which are beyond the permissible limits set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the World Health Organisation.

• The researchers have been working with the INREM Foundation and Earthwatch, to deploy and test these systems in rural areas such as Bhagalpur in Bihar and
Chickballapur in Karnataka.

5. Khadi Natural Paints

Why in news: Khadi Natural Paints gets certification from National Testing Laboratory.

Key points:

• Khadi Natural Emulsion and Distemper Paint has been certified as conforming to Indian Standards by the government quality assurance body National Testing Laboratory (NTH).

• NTH has conducted extensive testing to confirm that the emulsion paint conforms to the stringent BIS 15489:2013 standards.

6. eMigrate Portal

Why in news: External Affairs Ministry signed MoU with SBI to enhance digital payment services for eMigrate portal users.

Key points:

• The integration of SBIePay with the eMigrate portal will allow Indian migrant workers, Recruiting Agents (RAs), and other users to make various emigration-related payments with ease.

• This includes transactions via UPI, credit/debit cards, and NEFT through net banking of all Indian banks, all with no transaction charges.

• The eMigrate project, launched in 2014, was designed to support Indian workers heading to Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries for employment.

7. Diamond Reserves

Why in news: Diamond reserves found in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh.

Key points:

• Diamond reserves have also been found in Tumla village located in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh.

• It has been confirmed that diamonds are present within an area of 25 square kilometres. Indicator minerals chromite, pyrope, ilmenite and others present in the
entire area are also confirming this.

• Diamonds of world class quality are found in Behradih, Payalikhand of Mainpur development block of Gariaband district in the state.

7. Fuel Demand Growth

Why in news: According to the International Energy Agency , India, the world's third largest oil importer and consumer, will become the leader in global oil demand by the end of this decade.

Key points:

• The agency projects a massive increase in consumption of 1.3 million barrels between 2023 and 2030.

• In its 'Oil 2024 Report' that between 2023 and 2030, India's oil demand will increase more than that of any other country except China.

• Currently, Russia, Iraq & Saudi Arabia are the top 3 crude oil suppliers to India as per May, 2024 report.

8. World's Fourth Largest Rail Network

Why in news: Indian Railways is the fourth largest rail network in the world.

Key points:

• America's network is at first place, China's network is at second place and Russia's network is at third place.

• This includes more than 7 thousand railway stations and more than 13 thousand passenger trains.

• A number of people equivalent to the population of Australia use Indian Railways daily. This number is approximately three crores, whereas the population of
Australia is 2.75 crores.

9. Highest Railway Bridge

Why in news: A trial was conducted on the world's highest Chenab Railway Bridge . Jammu & Kashmir.

• The railway bridge located between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district of the Jammu Division of Jammu and Kashmir.

• The ambitious project has been executed by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited at an estimated cost of Rs 1486 crore and length of this bridge built on Chenab river is 1315 meters

• The bridge is designed with a life span of up to 120 years.

1. Apulia Food System Initiative

Why in news: Apulia Food System Initiative approved by Heads of member countries on the sidelines of the G-7 meeting.

Key points:

• Keeping in mind the food crisis that arose in the world after the Russia-Ukraine war, the G-7 countries on Friday launched a food security initiative against global
malnutrition.

• The initiative has been named the G-7 Apulia Food Systems Initiative (AFSI).

• It aims to remove structural barriers to food security and nutrition.

• The initiative will focus on low-income countries and support food security projects in Africa to reduce displacement and migration of people from Africa.

2. Canada Supports Tibet's Right to Self-Determination

Why in news:

• Parliament of Canada has passed a resolution supporting Tibet's right to decide for itself.

Key points:

• The Commons passed a motion on supporting Tibet's right to make autonomous decisions. The motion brought by Member of Parliament Alexis BrunelleIsep was unanimously supported by MPs.

• China's control over Tibet dates back to the 1950s, when Chinese troops entered the region.

• The 17-point agreement of 1951 formalized the integration of Tibet into China.

1. Fastest Growing Economy In Asia-Pacific

Why in news: According to Moody’s report, India will remain the fastest growing economy in the Asia-Pacific region in 2024.

Key points:

• Indonesia, the Philippines and India will be at the forefront of growth in the first half of 2024 and will continue to outperform pre-Corona on the back of rising
exports, local demand and government spending on infrastructure, according to a report released by Moody's Ratings.

• Last month, the rating agency had estimated India's growth rate to be 6.8 percent in the current year and 6.5 percent in 2025.

• The Indian economy will benefit from seven strong economic expansions following post-election policy continuity.

• India's real GDP growth rate in 2023 was 7.7 percent.

2. Nine Trillion Dollars Economy:

Why in news: According to Morgan Stanley, Indian economy will be worth nine trillion dollars by 2034.

Key points:

• By the year 2034, the size of India's economy will reach nine trillion dollars (currently it is $3.7 trillion).

• The report shows that during the last decade, the economy has benefited greatly from the decisions taken at the government and RBI level like improving the supply chain, streamlining the economy, social reforms, reducing corporate tax, implementing GST.

• There is a possibility of 12-15 percent growth in BSE Sensex in the next five years.

• 20 percent annual income growth is expected during the next four to five years.

• The size of the Indian economy is estimated to be $ 9 trillion by the year 2034 and during this period the per capita income will increase from the current $ 2498
annually to $ 5,793.

1. World's Most Advanced Robot AMIKA

Why in news: Amica is the world's most advanced human robot, represents the future in human robotics technology.

• British company Engineered Arts Digital has developed Amica, which was displayed in Berlin, the capital of Germany.

• It was designed as part of a project to help robots and humans understand each other better. This will help in establishing better coordination between robots and
humans in future.

2. TRISHNA

Why in news: India-France's joint satellite Trishna will monitor Earth's temperature.

Key points:

• Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and French space agency CNES will monitor the Earth's surface through high-quality thermal infrared imaging satellite
'Trishnaa'.

• Earlier, ISRO and CNES have executed 'Megha Tropics' missions in 2011 and 'Saral Alteika' missions in 2013.

• India and France are entering into bilateral space cooperation in many areas including human space flight.

3. Research Station On The Moon

Why in news: Russia is going to build a research station on the moon with China.

Key points:

• Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a plan to build an international lunar research station with China.

• The ILRS would be built in two phases,the first phase of the ILRS construction project will build a base station in the south pole region of the Moon by 2035.

• The station will be expanded in the second phase, which is targeted to be completed by 2045. About 12 more countries and international organizations have signed on to this ambitious initiative.

• In March, the Russian government submitted a bill in the lower house of parliament to ratify the agreement with China.

1. Red Flag Military Exercise

Why in news: The Indian Air Force took part in a 16-day multinational mega military exercise in Alaska, USA.

Key points:

• The military exercise is taking place in an area of more than 77,000 square miles. '

• The Indian Air Force has deployed Rafale aircraft for the 'Flag' exercise.

• Approximately 3,100 service members will train to fly and maintain more than 100 aircraft during the exercise.

2. Tarang Shakti

Why in news: The Indian Air Force’s first multinational air exercise ‘Tarang Shakti-2024’ will be held in August.

Key points:

• The Indian Air Force’s first multinational air exercise, Tarang Shakti-2024 is likely to see the participation of ten countries, in addition to a few others acting
as observers.

• The exercise is scheduled to be held in two phases. The first will be held in southern India in the first two weeks of August and the second will be in the western
sector from the end of August to mid-September.

1. Indian Small Civet

Why in news: Rare species Indian Small Civet seen with five newborns in Morena. Madhya Pradesh.

• It is found in very small numbers in south-east Asia and the southern part of India.

• There are black, white and brown stripes on its body. It has sharp pointed claws and teeth. The grip of claws and teeth is strong, with which it hunts.

• This animal is carnivorous, which preys on small wild animals like snakes, birds, rabbits and rats.

2. Snake Eel

Why in news: Scientists discovered a new species of snake eel Berhampur, Odisha.

• Three scientists of Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have discovered a new species of snake eel in Gopalpur in Ganjam district of Odisha.

• The new species has been named 'Ophichthus suryai' in honor of Surya Kumar Mohanty, former joint director of the state fisheries department.
