NATIONAL:

1. Child Labour Free Mine

Why in news: NCPCR declares mica mines in Jharkhand ‘child labour free’.

Key points:

• The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) declared the mica mines of Jharkhand’ child labour-free’ in Koderma, Jharkhand.

• This is the first-ever successful endeavour to cleanse a supply chain of child labour in mica mining.

Value Addition:

• NCPCR is a statutory body set up under the provisions of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005 came into existence in 2007.

• China is the largest producer of Mica in the world. India ranks 8th in mica production. Andhra Pradesh is the largest mica producer in India, followed by Rajasthan.

• Mica is found in Gaya and Munger districts of Bihar. Bihar ranks third in India in mica production.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. Napoleon's Pistol

Why in news: French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte’s pistol sold for 15 crores at the Ossett auction house.

Key points:

• Two pistols of Napoleon Bonaparte were auctioned at a price of more than Rs 15 crore.

• The auction house is located close to the Fontainebleau Palace.

• Napoleon attempted suicide here in 1814 after his abdication.

1. Lokpath Mobile App

Why in news: Madhya Pradesh launches ‘Lokpath Mobile App’ to Expedite Road Issue Resolution.

Key points:

• The goal of this digital project is to quickly fix road problems that people report within seven days.

• The Lokpath Mobile App lets people directly share problems with the roads, like potholes or other damage.

• It is developed by Madhya Pradesh State Electronic Development Corporation Limited (MPSEDC) and the app was created by the Public Works Department (PWD).

ECONOMY:

1. Employment Rate rised by 6%

Why in news: Employment rate rises 6% provisionally in FY24 from 3.2% in FY23, according to RBI data.

Key points:

• India’s employment rate grew by 6 per cent in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024 from a growth of 3.2 per cent in 2022-23.

• Employment in the country increased by 4.67 crore to 64.33 crore (provisional) in the fiscal year 2023-24, from 59.67 crore in 2022-23.

SUMMITS/CONFERENCES:

1. NATO Summit

Why in news: USA to host NATO summit in Washington DC from July 9th to 11th.

Key points:

• The three-day NATO summit to be held here will be the first to include Sweden as a member of the alliance.

• Sweden officially joined the alliance in March.

• The summit is likely to show a strong demonstration of America and its allies’ support for Ukraine and make significant new announcements to increase military, political and financial support for Ukrain.

• The historic summit would also mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), which is now a strong military alliance of 32 countries.

2. Sahkar Se Samriddhi Conference

Why in news: Amit Shah addressed “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” conference on the occasion of 102nd International Day of Cooperatives in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Key points:

• The International Day of Cooperatives is an annual celebration of the cooperative movement around the world.

• The theme for the 102nd International Cooperative Day is- “Cooperatives Build a Better Future for All.”

• It has been observed on the first Saturday of July (6 July) ever since 1923 by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA).

1. Zorawar

Why in news: India unveiled its first indigenously designed and developed light battle tank Zorawar.

Key points:

• The 25-ton tank named ‘Zorawar’ is the result of a public-private partnership between DRDO and L&T.

• It aimed at bolstering military capabilities in high-altitude environments.

• This tank features advanced weaponry and protection systems, including a 105mm rifled cannon and composite modular armor.

• It will be capable of delivering devastating firepower at high altitude battlefields and operating in all-weather conditions.

• It developed in a record time of under two years.

• It is Named after General Zorawar Singh, the tank is slated for extensive trials before potential deployment in Ladakh, Sikkim, or Kashmir.

1. 133rd Durand Cup

Why in news: Kolkata, Kokrajhar, Jamshedpur & Shillong to host 133rd Durand Cup.

Key points:

• For the first time, Jamshedpur will host the Durand Cup matches.

• The 133rd edition of the Durand Cup will begin on 27 July 2024 and end on 31 August 2024. The final is being played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata, West Bengal.

• Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated East Bengal last year to lift the trophy.

2. Dhruv Sitwala

Why in news: India’s Dhruv Sitwala won Asian Billiards Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia .

Key points:

• India’s Dhruv Sitwala has won the men’s Asian Billiards Championships after defeating Pankaj Advani.

• While, India’s Anupama Ramachandran has won the maiden Asian Snooker Championship Title with a gritty 3-1 win over Panchaya Channoi of Thailand.

3. PV Sindhu

Why in news: Veteran badminton player PV Sindhu will be India's female flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Paris Games.

Key points:

• The male flag bearer will be table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal whose name has already been announced.

• London Olympics bronze medalist shooter Gagan Narang will be India's mission chief.

• Narang has replaced veteran boxer MC Mary Kom.

• The Mission Chief serves as a liaison with the Organizing Committee and takes care of the needs of the players.

4. Vinesh Phogat

Why in news: Vinesh Phogat won gold medal in Spain Grand Prix.

Key points:

• Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat won the gold medal in the women's 50 kg category at the Spain Grand Prix.

• Two-time World Championship bronze medalist Vinesh defeated Maria Tiumrekova in the final to clinch the first position.

5. Asian Squash Doubles Championship 2024

Why in news: Indian Squash Players Triumph at Asian Squash Doubles Championship 2024 held at the Arena Emas in Johor, Malaysia.

• Indian squash players secured two titles at the recently concluded Asian Squash Doubles Championship 2024.

• The 15th Agriculture Leadership Awards Committee has announced that Maharashtra has won the Best Agriculture State Award for 2024.

• The announcement was made by the committee headed by Justice P Sathasivam, former Chief Justice of India and Governor of Kerala.

1. Four Thousand Year Old Temple Remains

Why in news: Remains of a four thousand year old temple have been found in Lambayeque, Peru.

Key points:

• This temple, discovered by archaeologists, was buried in a sand dune.

• Along with this, skeletons of three adults were also found, which may have been offerings for religious rituals.

• The ruins were discovered in the sandy desert district of Zana, in the South American country's Lambayeque region.

BIHAR:

1. Van Mahotsav

Why in news: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the state level Van Mahotsav 2024 on 8th July.

Key points:

• It is organized by the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department by planting a Maldah mango sapling at the Chief Minister's residence One Ane Marg.

• On this occasion, the Chief Minister has appealed to the people to contribute to this campaign by planting trees in and around their premises.

• To increase the green cover area in the state, tree plantation was started from 2012.

• Under the campaign, five saplings will be provided free of cost to a particular person by the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

2. Bihar's Largest Industrial Area

Why in news: Bihar's largest industrial area will start in Gaya.

Key points:

• The Board of Trustees of the Central Government's National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) has approved the project for Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya.

• There is a possibility of investment of more than 1350 crores in this project.

• With an area of 1670 acres, this will be the largest industrial area in the state.

• This project is within the ambit of Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor.

• For the development of integrated manufacturing cluster in Bihar, the state government has identified land in Dobhi block under Sherghati subdivision of Gaya district.

• The establishment of the cluster will provide direct employment to thousands of people.

3. Bihar Police Ranks fifth in the Number of followers

Why in news: Bihar Police is at top five states of the country in terms of total number of followers.

Key points:

• Bihar Police has a total of 12 lakh 70 thousand followers on internet media platforms like Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube.

• Bihar Police ranks third on Facebook with 6 lakh 65 thousand followers. In this ranking, Kerala Police is at first place while Karnataka Police is at second place.

• Similarly, Bihar Police is at seventh place in the ranking of X and Instagram with 4 lakh 63 thousand and 1 lakh 30 thousand followers respectively.

• Uttar Pradesh Police is first in the X-ranking while Kerala Police is at first place in the ranking of Instagram

4. 1.77 Crore Saplings To Be Planted By MGNREGA

Why in news: 1.77 crore saplings will be planted in the state this rainy season Under MGNREGA.

Key points:

• This year (2024-25) one crore 77 lakh saplings will be planted under MNREGA.

• Plantation in Samastipur district It has already started, soon it will start in all the districts.

• The department has instructed the districts to plant at least 1200 saplings in all the gram panchayats of the state.

• Last year in 2023-24, A target was set to plant 1 crore 61 lakh saplings under MNREGA. Against this, one crore 67 lakh saplings were planted.

5. Mohammad Tausif Rasool

Why in news: Bihar's Tausif selected in Indian handball team.

Key points:

• Mohammad Tausif Rasool, resident of Nawada district of Bihar, has been selected in the Indian team to participate in the 18th Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship

• This competition will be held from 12th to 26th July . in Amman, Jordan.

6. Bihar's Growth Rate

Why in news: Bihar's growth rate will remain in double digits in the current financial year.

Key points:

• In the financial year (2024-25), the growth rate of Bihar GDP is estimated to be in double digits.

• This is the assessment of rating agency CRISIL.

• It is noteworthy that in the financial year 2023-24, the growth rate of Bihar was 10.98%. This is a basis for estimation, as for the last several years the growth rate of Bihar has remained in double digits.

• This is the result of efficient financial management in the state.
